Basic Author-Date Format
APA uses an author-date citation system. Include the author's last name and the year of publication in parentheses after the referenced material.

When the author is not mentioned in the text:
"Social media usage has increased dramatically among teenagers (Johnson, 2022)."
Narrative Citations
When the author is mentioned in the text:
"Johnson (2022) found that social media usage has increased dramatically among teenagers."
Page Numbers and Locations
Include page numbers for direct quotes and when referring to specific parts of a source:
Direct Quote:
According to Smith (2023), "the results were statistically significant" (p. 45).
Specific Section:
The methodology was clearly outlined (Brown, 2022, pp. 23-25).
No Page Numbers (Online Sources):
The study revealed interesting patterns (Davis, 2023, para. 4).
Multiple Authors
Two Authors:
Parenthetical: (Smith & Jones, 2023)
Narrative: Smith and Jones (2023)
Three or More Authors:
First citation: (Smith, Jones, & Brown, 2023)
Subsequent citations: (Smith et al., 2023)
Group/Corporate Authors:
First citation: (American Psychological Association [APA], 2023)
Subsequent citations: (APA, 2023)
Special Situations
No Author:
Use the title: ("Climate Change Effects," 2023)
Same Author, Same Year:
(Smith, 2023a), (Smith, 2023b)
Secondary Sources:

Multiple Citations
When citing multiple sources in one parenthetical citation:
Alphabetical Order:
